It's not an accident that a partner is like this. It comes from good genes, careful handling and extensive training. Only the partner with confidence in their handlers AND in themselves can be this adaptable. Daily handling, attention to detail and commitment to quality care help make the partnership stronger.
Many people avoid working their horses when the conditions are less than optimal. (Wind storm anyone?) We see these events as training opportunities and work our partners in these conditions. Over time, the equine learns that their partner will protect them, even in situations that are worrisome.
Partnership is a two way street. We have to give/teach as much as we expect. It's not a fast foundation to build, but it is a strong one.
